Sayonara

Sayonara
my precious loved one
the fallen tears will change to snow
Sayonara
to myself who cried until yesterday
close your eyes quietly

You calmly rested on my shoulder
as we leaned on the windowsill
That slightly shy gesture
made me smile
I lightly kissed your cheek
and watched you walk away

Sayonara
my precious loved one
the fallen tears will change to snow
Sayonara
to myself who cried until yesterday
close your eyes quietly

A dream for just the two of us on the small table
even the unseen future held no fear
In the first album, I softly looked upon
your happy face

Sayonara
my precious loved one
Only my feelings for you
are certain to remain
Sayonara
to myself who cried until yesterday
It's a quiet night, isn't it?

I left the title as "Sayonara" for two reasons, one being that most people understand it without a translation, and the other being because it loses something in translation. "Sayonara" is not really said by Japanese people in every day life, it is more appropriate for situations when you don't expect to see the person in question again for a very long time or forever. "Farewell" is probably a better translation than "goodbye", but there's another song by that name.
